About Sean Nealon Lino

These aren't lessons I learned from a textbook. They're lessons I had to live.

Lisbon to Edinburgh, Barking Abbey to the Commonwealth Games, NCAA Division II as a player and then as a coach, with several surgeries in between. Everything I coach came out of that road.

Ch 01 · The athlete

A football city and a gym that opened twice a week

I was born in Lisbon and raised in Edinburgh, a football city where the gym only opened twice a week. So I ran the 40 minutes to practice and stayed until they kicked me out. That was the first thing basketball taught me: nobody was going to make the opportunity convenient.

At 16 I left home for Barking Abbey, a basketball academy in London. Leaving that early teaches you quickly how much of performance is preparation and self-management, because there is no one else there to manage it for you.

It paid off. I represented Scotland and Great Britain at four European Championships, and played for Team Scotland at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. I learned what it feels like to play in an environment where every athlete on the floor is talented, and the difference is who can stay composed.

Ch 02 · The rebuild

What the injuries actually taught me

Then came the injuries: multiple knee surgeries, a torn ACL, two cartilage transplants and a torn Achilles, with my family an ocean away.

Rehab taught me what resilience actually is. It is not one big comeback moment. It is showing up for the small things every single day when nothing looks like progress yet: the journaling, the goals broken down small enough to be won and then celebrated like wins, the routines that turned confidence into something I built instead of something I hoped for.

That daily work was the real progress. It also became the toolkit I coach today, which is why I never ask an athlete to just "be more confident." We build the evidence first.

WHAT THE REBUILD WAS BUILT ON

01Preparation before it counted

02Routines I could repeat on bad days

Ch 03 · The teacher and coach

Both sides of the whistle

I played NCAA Division II basketball, then coached as an NCAA Division II assistant working in recruiting and player development. Coaching at that level showed me the same thing from the other side of the whistle: talent gets athletes into the gym, but preparation and composure decide what happens once they are there.

Today I am a boys varsity assistant basketball coach at San Joaquin Memorial and teach Leadership and PE at Green Acres Middle School in Visalia, California. Teaching changed how I coach. A drill is not finished when it has been explained. It is finished when the athlete can do it without me.

Because I teach full time and coach a varsity season, I take a small number of athletes at a time, and the ones I take, I actually have time for. I am also a Mental Performance Mastery (MPM) Certified Coach through Brian Cain Peak Performance, the training that teaches the skills behind performance: confidence, focus, composure, routines and self-talk.

Between the teaching, the coaching and the certification, it all points one direction: knowing is not changing. That is why everything I coach ends in a rep you actually run.

If an athlete needs support outside the scope of performance coaching, the athlete or family will be directed toward an appropriate licensed professional.

Why Elevated w/ Lino exists

I had to learn the mental side by surviving it

Nobody handed me a system for confidence, focus or resetting after a bad night. I put mine together out of necessity, in rehab rooms and empty gyms, years after I needed it. Elevated w/ Lino exists so athletes get both halves at once: the skill work that changes what they can do, and the mental-performance work that decides whether it shows up when it counts.

01

Skills with mechanics

Confidence, focus and composure aren't personality traits. They're trainable, and they get taught like any other skill.

02

Individual, not generic

Every plan is built around one athlete's goals, season and challenges, focusing on the areas that will create the most impact rather than a fixed curriculum.

03

Tools they keep

The goal is an athlete who can run their own preparation, reset and routines long after the sessions end.

I created Elevated w/ Lino to give athletes the guidance, tools and support I had to learn through experience.

Elevated w/ Lino. Confidence is earned.
